HIGH VOLTAGE

Standard IC process technologies are usually limited to 5V, 3.3V, 1.8V or even lower supply voltage, but we have design and development experience in special technologies extending operation towards for example 12V, 30V, 100V up to 650V.

Because of our experience in high voltage technology we can quickly assess the best choice of technology and design a very challenging ASIC in less time and at a lower cost than most customers assume.

FROM CONCEPT TO PRODUCTION

WE QUICKLY DEVELOP THE ASIC FOR YOUR HIGH-VOLTAGE APPLICATION

While operating voltages have been declining with each new process technology node, there are still many applications that require higher operating voltages. Such applications can be in the sensor domain (needing a high-voltage but low-power bias) as well as in the power domain (for example drivers). Some examples of our IC design and developments with operation above the standard supply voltages:

  • Multi-chip High-voltage switch (ASIC) – 7500V max.
  • Inductive-boost-converter LED Driver ASIC (MM3097) from battery supply (3-6V) to 36V
  • Mains-connected (AC) LED Driver ASIC – 400V operation (700V max.)
  • High-voltage design primary-side control plus PFC of efficient power-converters – 650V max.
  • Multi-segment smart-card display driver – 20V max.
  • Regulator for automotive application – 40V max.
  • Multi-phase PWM controller – 16V max.

EXAMPLE: AC LED DRIVER IC

CHALLENGE

Our customer produces a range of AC LED modules for lamp manufacturers. The products were originally built with discrete components, a different set for each module type. For performance enhancement and simplification of  production steps and supply chain, the customer was looking for a custom ASIC solution. The customer was also expecting improved performance on TRIAC dimmer compatibility and a reduction in product costs. With a programmable high-voltage ASIC and only a few external components (rectifier, fuse and surge) all module types can be made. LED modules with such an ASIC are directly driven from the AC mains voltage, are low-cost and are very compact and reliable.

SOLUTION

A set of TRIAC dimmers were studied by SystematIC for their interaction with the customer’s discrete AC LED product. SystematIC design methodologies were used to create an electronic solution that made the customer AC LED lamp compatible with TRIAC dimmers. A discrete prototype was built and demonstrated to the customer just a few weeks after the first contact. The discrete electronics where chosen such that they could be implemented in a HV IC process ...

OUR SERVICES

We deliver the analog and mixed-signal circuit designs that are needed to complete the development of an IC or discrete product and provide competitive specifications and/or unique functionalities. We also provide turn-key solution for customers needing us to go from product idea to product definition and then to IC production.
